    “English GK loses his job to a Spanish foreigner” is basically what’s happening here.

    Our fans got too attached to Ramsdale too quickly and started saying “he’s our next David Seaman” etc. it’s clear to anyone that Raya is better than Ramsdale in every department. It doesn’t matter that Raya isn’t the best GK in the world, the simple matter is that he’s much better than Ramsdale and that is what Arteta and the coaching staff see.

      You’re missing the peak idiocy on this point: the truly ludicrous conspiracy theory that Inaki has deliberately sabotaged Ramsdale for the benefit of ‘his guy’ Raya, and has been doing this to all our keepers since he came here.

      It’s funny though as Ramsdale would also get rinsed for not being good enough when he made mistakes last year and also didn’t really get his plaudits from pundits either too. Now the narrative has completely flipped it’s funny enough to witness.

      That’s one thing that’s puzzled me even more. He is not from the academy. He has hardly been here for two years. His performances last year were average. Why did a majority of our fans get so attached to Ramsdale? It’s something that confused me a little. Is it because of the " banter"?

        it’s understandable i think - he had an excellent run of games. was a breath of fresh air for a decently long time after ospina/cech/leno/martinez etc. suits the system mostly. has a great story to his career too, really fought his way up.

        just not quite the level we need unfortunately. dunno if Raya is either tbh but still. i guess our plan is to just not need a top tier keeper, just need someone who can pass and defenders to stop them needing to make saves. working so far imo
