Looking for folks to chat with about this for a story I’m working on. Seems like Avis, Hertz, etc. are pushing their EVs a bit more on drivers (especially those renting from airports.)

I got a Hyundai ionic 5 as a rental in LA. It was very comfortable, incredible fast and I absolutely loved it. Hotel had chargers so on the last day I plugged it in, went to breakfast, back to the room to get my stuff, checked out and car was done charging. Couldn’t be easier honestly. 5/5.
I had to wait 2 hours for Avis to get any gas vehicle ready for me.
Plenty of EVs sitting around, but they wouldn’t or couldn’t upgrade me. The desk person was skeptical that I actually wanted one.
I reserved a Bolt and got a Tesla Model 3 instead. I actually wanted the Bolt because EA had better charging locations for where I was going, but they were out of Bolts. They also tried to upsell me, but eventually caved and gave me the Model 3 for around $30/day.
I reserved an EV from Hertz and got an EV from Hertz. I wasn’t pressured into getting an EV because that’s what I already wanted; it was a good experience.
I have grabbed a few Tesla Model 3s from the President’s Circle where you can pick any car (Hertz).
“I thought I was getting a Nissan Altima. All you have is a Tesla model S Plaid? Well, ok.”

Have gotten a Tesla, a Polestar and a NIRO EV from Hertz and Enterprise.
In each case I’ve asked for them.
Had a friend who is totally anti EV get one as a rental. So of course it was a TERRIBLE experience which he tells EVERYONE.
