Hi there!

It turns out our 987.2 suffered seized piston(s) with about 185 TKM. Is that even the correct term in English? In German, it’s “Kolbenkipper”. I suppose you might call it “the next step after bore scoring”. Thank god for Approved, we’ll get the engine replaced or revised on warranty. That’s one warranty I am sure to extend before 200 TKM!

Now here’s my question: What are your / official recommendations to break in a new or revised engine beyond the obvious (not to rev beyond 3k for the first, say, 1 TKM). Does it matter how this break in period comes together? Can I take one long, continuous, speed-wise moderate and careful 1000-km-highway trip or should these miles come onto the engine over a certain amount of time - one, two, three months or something like that?

Any recommendations?

Thanks for your help! :)

I would recommend aggressive half-throttle to the RPM mid-range, then back off the throttle. Vary your speeds and RPM any chance you get without impeding traffic. I think a few hundred Km of doing this would be sufficient.
