Every single new car is coming with big screens everywhere, am I missing something, online every single reviewer, commentor, reporter, etc all say they absolutely despise big screens and prefer buttons.

But then Ford for example said that their focus groups for the new Mustang overwhelmingly favored big screens(in the savagegeese mustang review)… is this just a thing where enthusiasts are just the vocal minority, or do most people really dislike big screens, and car manufacturers are just doing it to cut costs?

I think what sells (i.e. what people think they want/will like/will use) isn’t always the same as what people really want/like after actually using the product.

No, they don’t. This isn’t a “car enthusiasts are out of touch” issue.

I honestly don’t know a single person who like the screens, ESPECIALLY when they are placed high up on the dash near the windshield. All that extra light and glare near where your eyes are looking at the road are not good.

I like a big integrated screen with critical switches/knobs separate. Tacked on is a no go. Auto grade only. Curved is nice where possible. Easily cleanable is key. Wish they all let you watch streaming platforms while stopped.

    I do*

The asterisk is for keeping normal, everyday car stuff out of the touchscreen menus and kept as physical buttons. Give me all my climate control, heated/cooled seats, and volume knob as buttons and switches.

Then you can give me a giant ass touchscreen for Android Auto.

But I swear to god, if you put everything in the touchscreen panel? We’re going to have a problem.

I like big screens only when using navigation. Don’t like them when I’m playing music and it’s just the song name and 5 other playlists just cluttering up the screen

No reviewer said they despise big screens. They like big screens, but they do not like having everything in the screen. And most people regardless if they care about cars or not like bigger screens.

It annoys me that in my 22 F-250, I have to open a menu on screen if I want to turn the defroster on at anything other than max temp and fan speed. My wife’s Tesla Model 3 is close to infuriating when I’m trying to do something as simple as open the glove box, set the windshield wiper speed, or figure out how to listen to a radio station.

My 2019 flex was almost the perfect amount of tech for me. It had Carplay/Android Auto, physical controls, and options to change some of the settings without taking my hands off of the steering wheel. I wish I was smart enough to figure out a way to run that headunit in my 14 Mustang.
