larger wheels/tires are heavier.

heavier wheels/tires means more unsprung weight.

More weight means more power required to get them going.

more power means less range.

seems pretty obvious that they should be going with smaller, lighter, narrowing wheels and tires.

electric cars tend to be heavier because of the battery. might make sense to have bigger tires for that reason?

Most people are more interested in appearance than what they see are nerdy tech issues like getting slightly better range for the cost of looking less cool.

It’s not just EVs. They’re doing it on higher-trim ICE vehicles too, and people have been doing them aftermarket for well over a decade. Why? People like how they look. (It sells cars.)

The Ioniq 6 forces you to get them on the higher trims. It’s so frustrating!

At least give us the option of not sacrificing 20% of the range.

Have we seen any real-world tests for the range drop? It has never added up to me that going from 18-20 inch wheels would give a 20% range drop, instead of a 5-10% drop that you see from almost all other automakers.

I bought an Ioniq 6 because of the range. I would have gladly paid more for the higher trim levels but because of the loss of range I took the SE. Which was also incredibly hard to find, I had to go one state over to buy it.

When I found out that the loss of range was because of the tires I was pissed.
