If I’ve got to transfer/re-download my whole SD library to the OLED, I would hope I can finally turn the screen off whilst it is doing so.
Step 1: take a screenshot of a completely black background
Step 2: open that screenshot when you’re downloading games
(I do agree though that this should be officially supported, but there’s more that goes into it. For example: what if you forget that just the screen is off and throw a running deck into a case and then into a backpack? So it wouldn’t be a simple feature. It would need to have mitigations built in, like turning the screen back on if the gyro detects movement or something).
I wouldn’t forget: I know when I’m downloading software on it and don’t just chuck it into the case on a whim and run out the door with it.
I am an adult, not a child and I suspect 99% of people who buy Steam Decks are.
And you’d remember correctly 99.99% of the time.
Good design isn’t about the 99.99%. It’s about the 0.01%.
Just use minimum brightness, it’s just 2 nits
what about this:
Go to desktop mode, and set the display properties to turn off the display after 1 min but never sleep.
This works I did this a lot when my deck was new.
The other option is plug it into an external screen, which deactivates the internal screen.
I’m thinking of swapping my SSD from LCD to OLED, faster and got to move all of the Emudeck along too
I’m not too worried about burn-in per se, guys. My Steam Deck is my last screen that will go OLED and I’ve not had an issue with it on my TV, PC Monitor, Phone or Switch yet.
It’s just that when I got the SD I installed things piecemeal as and when I worked out whether it was verified/ran well. Now I know I have a library of at least 75 games to put on the OLED and it would be nice if I could just leave it in a sort of standby mode with the screen off and move it all over in one go.
I don’t understand why it’s such a difficult feature for them to add? Pretty much every mobile device I’ve used in recent years can do this.
Most people have Internet that fast I don’t really see it being an issue
For the first transfer of all your stuff, I would just go into desktop mode and download it through there. You can set the screen to turn off after 1 min, but set it to not go to sleep when plugged in.
Cant you move them to an SD card and then move it to the new Deck?
