No idea why the people in this comment thread get downvoted, but the extension is literally not an actual, factually correct count of youtube-wide dislikes, and the creators say so themselves.
From their own homepage:
“The backend is using archived data from when the youtube api was still returning the dislike count, extension users like/dislike count and extrapolation.” (https://www.returnyoutubedislike.com/faq)
It’s a mix of outdated pre-removal data, dislikes of only(!) the users of the extension, and guesswork. Dislikes of youtubers who do not use the extension are not factored in, and “extrapolation” is a fancy way to describe that part of the data is made up based on assumptions.
Even if it’s not completely accurate it does seem to at least somewhat work for newer videos if they’re popular enough. I’ve seen videos that aren’t liked based on comments and discussion on other platforms have a high amount of dislikes.
There is an addon you can use to see them.
It’s not a full replacement. Just a snapshot from when the count info was removed from public view, plus data from people with the extension.

The dislike count with that extension is just a guess
No that’s not accurate, you see an estimation not the actual dislike counter. The public dislike counter is forever gone.

You see dislikes from the extension, not YouTube dislikes. The only thing they have in common is the name.
It has absolutely no idea about people like me pressing dislike when I don’t have the extension.
