I know, I know, you have seen this exact question thousands of times, but I’m curious, and I want to see how you rate mine:

Ronaldo Maradona Messi

Zidane Pele

Matthaus

Maldini Beckenbauer Baresi Cafu

Casillas

Notes:

Goalkeeper: Never liked Yashin, and I slightly like Casillas over Neuer. Buffon comes in behind both at third.

Fullbacks: Cafu was a no-brainer for me, and I shifted Maldini here to include Baresi at CB because I find Roberto Carlos to be one of the most overrated players in history.

Centrebacks: Beckenbauer was a no-brainer, and Baresi was very underrated and more deserving than Roberto Carlos. Shoutout to Sergio Ramos though.

Defensive Midfielder: The hardest working position in my eyes, so I had to include one. If I wanted two CAMs, I needed a CDM, so I went for the best option in Matthaus.

Attacking Midfielders: The formation is wonky, but I went for two CAMs. This formation would let in 5 goals a game if it didn’t have the greatest defense of all time. I chose Zizou because of how impactful he was when he played, and Pele as a Cam, because Pele was actually a CAM, not a striker, so he was the best option for me.

Wingers: The goats. What can I say?

Striker: Pele is better than Maradona, and so I would rather Pele play in his correct role and shift Maradona up top, as Pele will impact my team more.

If I had a coach it would be Alex Ferguson

I messed up formatting for lineup. It was supposed to look like this:

    ________Ronaldo Maradona Messi
    _______________Zidane Pele
    _________________Matthaus
    ____Maldini Beckenbauer Baresi Cafu
    __________________Casillas

So 5 number 10s, I assume Cristiano Ronaldo on the wing, Beckenbauer playing sweeper, centre half and centre midfield. This is a step beyond even Ossie’s 4-1-5 at Spurs.

I’m assuming you’re in your 70s/80s to have seen all these players play.My starting XI is purely based on players I’ve seen play regularly in my few decades of watching of the game.

I only saw Messi during Champions League knockouts, being primarily a PL watcher, so I wouldn’t have him in my starting XI, despite the fact that I acknowledge he is undoubtedly better than anyone I have in there. To fit as many of my favourites in, I’m going with 3 players to shield the keeper, with the other 8 just thrown in to cause chaos in whatever way they like.

GK: Thibaut CourtoisCB: Nemanja VidicCB: John TerryDM: Patrick Vieira

CM: Frank LampardCM: Luka ModricAM: David SilvaLW: Eden HazardSS: Wayne RooneySS: Antoine GriezmannCF: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

On the bench:Kevin de Bruyne, Thomas Muller, Angel Di Maria, Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry, David Villa, Luis Suarez, Harry Kane.

Yours is fairly similar to mine

Gk = casillas. Lb = maldini Lcb = beckenbauer Rcb = ramos Rb = cafu Cm = pirlo Cm = xavi Am = zidane Lw = cristiano St = ronaldo nazario Rw = messi

No pele / maradona as i never watched them play and the eras are completely different; while someone like cristiano would be working 24/7 with perfect nutrition plans, maradona would be partying 24/7 with a nutrition of cocaine and burgers

I could even agree with your lineup if I had watched all these guys play but I’m in my 30s so I missed some. On paper it looks great. Disagree completely with your comment on Roberto Carlos. He was rated exactly as highly as he deserved to be.

In terms of accommodating the best players its a great line up with only marginal/arguable swaps.

In reality on the pitch i think you would probably have to concede at least one of the front five for another deep player to strike the best balance.
