Hey all, I am hoping to purchase a handheld in the near future, I just have a question about the Deck and video game launchers.
I keep seeing that the Steam Deck, as opposed to the new Legion Go and the ROG Ally is more similar to a console experience. How accurate is this? I can see certain titles via my steam profile that can be played on deck, Assassin’s Creed for instance, but this requires the Ubisoft launcher to run. Would I be able to run Assassin’s Creed out of the gate or is some set-up required? How intuitive would that be? What about Battlefield or Mass Effect that run through the EA launcher?
Any information you could provide would be great, and help me make an informed decision. I honestly just want to game as easily as possible, and am familiar with Windows and the gripes that gaming on that platform.
Thanks.
SteamOS is the most “console-like” experience in the PC gaming space. I’d say it gets maybe 80% of the way there.
For your launchers, what happens with games you purchased from Steam is basically “steam will install the launcher, it’ll ask you to plug in your ubi/ea account username and password, then it’ll let you continue on to the game.”
It’s non-steam games that run into more trouble. Steam will generally do all the launcher stuff for you in the backend.
