I just don’t see how this is any better than a watch? The camera aspect is kind of cool but IDK if these people realize we all don’t go around wearing blazers or clothing that a pin works or looks good. A watch is just 10x more practical in terms of wearable tech.

It’s $700. The article is from Australia so the $1000 is $1000 AUS

(not that I still don’t think that’s a lot for what it is unless I’m missing something)

    🙄

I’ve seen SF movies where they have this type of setup of people punching buttons that were projected onto their hands somehow. Or perhaps embedded in their skin.

And I thought the idea seemed ridiculous, and I still think it’s ridiculous even though it’s actually happening.

Yeah they are trying to market it as a screen less smart phone but all they’re doing is making your hand or a wall the screen. It’s true, it is screen less, but you still have to point it at a ‘screen’ to use it.

Well add to that voice calls are usually for private conversations and so you’ll have to put earbuds in anyways… and wear this stupid bulky pin on your shirt all the time? These days personal calls are many times video or just text. This is the kind of idea that sounds cool to boomers

Oh god, not this shit again. There was a scam Kickstarter campaign years ago that claimed it would project an entire phone screen on your arm and it was just comically stupid.

There’s a reason all photos are done in dim lighting, because this dumbass idea can’t work in the slightest daylight and you would have to hold your hand in the perfect position in which the projection is focused.

This is just tech media further advertising scams and products that have zero viability.

It does look similar to the kind of green laser pointer that people use in stadiums to mess with players from long distances, which is a far cry from the color phone screen on forearm scam.

Also what’s the point of replacing a device that can be operated with just one hand with a device that needs two hands to operate? Even if it works perfectly… why bother? What does that improve?

If this tech allowed you to project an interactive display into open space in front of you, that would actually be an improvement. Or even just projecting it onto a wall. But something that requires both hands to operate, is objectively worse than a smartphone.

I mean, not to defend this project because I think it’s still a fail, but that’s not what the primary interface of this is. It’s voice. The idea is it doesn’t need a screen at all and most is done via voice/response. The projector is a side feature

Wait till they learn that every phone already offers the same thing with any pair of wireless headphones, except the gimmicky projector that no one asked for.

This is like a toy for cosplayers. The reviews are going to be brutal.

I say strip it all down to a sleek collar pin that vibrates, and has directional audio so only the user can hear, but it’s not in their ear. Tap to answer calls, or whatever else can be all voice and audio.

For totally cyberpunk styling, do similar, but as some of those bone conducting headphones.

The focus part can be done with adaptive lens and a camera, it’s not even very hard to do - higher end overhead projectors do have this sort of autofocus feature built in. The brightness part though is currently a show-stopper.

Ah, the Cicret bracelet, that would magically project darker shades than the projection surface actually had.

Absolutely useless. I don’t like talking to technology. I can read faster than I can listen and I can type faster than I can talk.

Until there is a new was to input my thoughts an ideas into a computer, we’ll keep hitting similar limitations. Yes, this includes AI. One of the main reasons AI is more efficient right now, is that it gives me information without ads. Just like Google used to.

    Also, what’s the battery life?

Typing pure text is not faster than speaking. But the mix of typing and navigating by fingers is more convenient and reliable

I’d love to have it measured. There’s a rhythm and natural cadence to speech that I don’t have to think about when typing. At least certain subjects, I can let the words flow out uninterrupted and then go back and edit if necessary.

However, your point is interesting in the sense that when I’m speaking to another human, I’m also looking and listening for their feedback. So that’s really dual functionality, not singular.
