Trying to find that feeling watching Premier league or La Liga past few years, and I just can’t find it.

Am I getting old or these 10 years were just too good for football? Is the golden age over?

Whatever generation you grew up in was the best. Football didn’t exist before your generation and football is weak after your generation. That’s how it usually goes 🙃

Feel like there were a lot more wonder goals during that era.

Prem goal of the month in December 2006 was the absolute pinnacle.

Well, I didn’t watch the 86 WC, I’m under-40. I’ve read a lot about it though and seen plenty clips. I still think the distribution of star quality across teams in 98 was more even. The unexpected twist that was Croatia, also gave it a bit of soap opera. Either way, my comparisons will always be defined by the tournaments I really watched which are from about 90 down to now.

2000-2010 was the pinnacle. Real Madrid’s galacticos, Arsenal Invincibles, Chelsea’s 15 goals conceded team. Porto won the UCL, Barca’s Sextuple. Spain 2008 Euro and 2010 World Cup. The players were gods. Zidane, Ronaldinho, R9 at the peak of their power. CR7 and Messi both won Ballon D’Ors. The 2002 Brazil team was iconic. The 2006 Liverpool UCL final comeback. Maldini, Nesta, Cannavaro all defining what it meant to be an Italian defender. Nothing will ever compare to that decade, the level of competition, the iconic players, the incredible teams.

You could say pretty much the same for the 1990-2000 episode. Maldini and Baresi defining Italian defending, AC Milan, Ajax ‘Super Invincibles’ of 95, France, Germany, Netherlands, Brazil, Denmark winning euro 92, Barca’s dream team, Manchester United, Juventus. Pirlo, Zidane, Beckham, both Ronaldo’s. Much of it is nostalgia but they were both great decades.

Liverpool comeback was 2005, but HARD agree on all of this. Truly was incredible.

Don’t forget we had some SLAMMING adverts back then. Joga Bonito especially.
