Since the screen will be getting a massive quality improvement will you be getting the 512gb glossy or 1tb Anti-glare etched glass? I previously went with the etched glass LCD and I’m now thinking of upgrading to the glossy oled for full screen clarity.
Also since the nits are higher with the oled model (1000 hdr), glare should be less of an issue when I do use it outside my home.

Many of you have never owned an OLED and it shows… I actually feel bad for some of you, its kind of sad how uneducated some of you are on these panels…but hey, do what makes you happy…
The etched OLED looks as bad as the old LCD screen.
For anyone that owns an OLED TV (always glossy) and an OLED monitor (often matte/anti-reflective), this choice in configurations from Valve was a very, very strange one. With OLED being the primary, visual upgrade for the new Steam Deck OLED, you want to retain as much true black and color vibrancy as possible, and in no uncertain terms, any anti-reflective/matte coating will cause an appreciable hit to both.
If you live with OLED on a day-to-day basis, you know that sacrificing color saturation and the absolute contrast ratio is a price not worth paying.
Do you think using a glass screen protector on the 1TB model will restore the etched glass back to same high contrast as the glossy 512GB model?

Well, in my particular case (aka MY OPINION, for my needs, i’m not claiming to spit the universal truth), I need the etched glass display.
I’m spending half my job’s travelling Europe, can’t really control ambient light in a plane or train…) so… thanks, I don’t want to upgrade to Oled anymore!
To be clear, you’re still to perceive the vast majority of OLED benefits with that etched (semi-matte) layer atop the panel. It’s not as though the color vibrancy and absolute contrast are entirely lost once you go etched. The only downside will be that, during travels where you have strong overhead lighting, it’ll wash out some aspects of OLED. With that said, once you’re indoors and, ideally, in not-so-absolutely-bright ambient lighting, OLED will really come to life.
I never hear anyone mention the HUGE positive of the etched screen that it doesn’t scratch. My steamdeck original etched screen doesn’t have one single scratch on it despite a ton of use. Thats IMPOSSIBLE with any glossy screen.
Really wish Valve would just give 1TB users the option to get the glossy screen. Maybe just include some optional anti-glare screen protector with the device, so owners can decide for themselves?
If you really want the glossy screen and 1tb, just upgrade the SSD yourself and save ~20 bucks. Whole process just takes like 10min.
Will get highest end model with etched glass for the 1tb and throw a screen protector on it like Dave2D showed

He had earlier stated the same, that a screen protector helped. But after a week, he took it off because it was more vibrant but still hazy.
He advised against doing that and getting the 512gb. As an owner of 7 OLED panels of various types, Im cancelling my Limited Edition that wasnt even that limited for a 512gb. Its a shame because the LE looked great…
I find it very hard to believe the anti glare screen would diminish the OLED quality

I think I’m gonna go with the 512GB full fat OLED. I’m a sucker for an OLED screen and I pretty much only use my Deck indoors.
even indoors there is major glare with gloss unless you plan to play only in the dark
