I’m from Buenos Aires, so yes… we have a couple teams here 😅 There are 21 professional teams iirc and idk how many amateurs and semi pro.
But let’s make this answer a little more interesting. I grew up in a town just south of Buenos Aires called Banfield, which has a team with the same name, now playing in the First Division, once a champion and one of the oldest football clubs in Argentina. If you count the whole district in which Banfield is located, Lomas de Zamora, there are other two professional clubs: Los Andes and Temperley.

32 total football clubs in the metropolitan area, 10 play in the top division (10/18)The city also holds 59/64 league titles as well as 16 champions league titles. Any guesses?

Yes, and a very good one, relative to the population. Not every 50k town in the middle of nowhere has a team that has beaten AS Roma, Celtic, AZ Alkmaar and Besiktas.

Now I live in a city with 1.8m people and there’s over 400 clubs according to Google bard.

Town of 40k-ish, we’ve got semi-pro team who were promoted last season to the National League North despite not being in the north of England. They’ve spent my lifetime in steps 6 and 7 of the football pyramid.

No, I live in a small town between Amsterdam and Utrecht nowdays. We have a couple of amateur sides but no team with a stadium. Luckily going back to watch Ajax in Amsterdam is only a 20 minute drive.

My immediate answer would be Leiden, but since Amsterdam is a 20 minute drive and you didn’t mention HFC Haarlem I have to guess your from Hillywood haha

USL team. Not very good. It’s the kind of team that makes you glad that we don’t have a relegation system. It’s reserve/scouting/youth side is a “pay-to-play” club which isn’t uncommon in the US but sucks to see in person.

Well… my city is Buenos Aires so a big part of Argentina’s professional football is here, either in the city proper or in the surrounding area.

If we only count the city proper, we have:

    • Top flight: Argentinos Juniors, Barracas Central, Boca Juniors, Huracán, River Plate, San Lorenzo, Vélez
    • B Nacional (second tier): All Boys, Almagro*, Chacarita Juniors*, Defensores de Belgrano, Ferro, Nueva Chicago, Deportivo Riestra
    • B Metropolitana (third tier): Comunicaciones, Sacachispas
    • Primera C (fourth tier): Deportivo Español, Excursionistas, General Lamadrid, Yupanqui
    • Primera D (fifth tier - not professional): Deportivo Paraguayo, Lugano, Sportivo Barracas

    * These clubs were originally founded and still have their headquarters in the neighborhoods of Almagro and Chacarita respectively, however, their current stadiums are located outside of the city proper.

So, thats a total of 23 clubs, including several of the biggest clubs of the country. And thats only counting the city proper, which is where i was born and live. If we count the metropolitan area, the amount of clubs increases exponentially, there would be too many to count lol.
