Call me back when it’s cheaper
You’ll be waiting a long long time. It’s not even priced at what the market will bear
And when the light on the controller is on meaning the microphone is actually ON! Way to crap the bed on that one Sony. Also, battery life isn’t the best on the controller as well.
I like Dave2D’s comparison of this refresh to the Steam Deck wherein both Sony and Valve are in unique positions where their dominance in their own market space should mean they can afford to reduce costs for their hardware since losses are subsidized by their marketplace anyway.
Valve’s the only one doing it, while upgrading the Deck OLED with a better screen, better APU, better fan, and more battery life. Sony on the other hand is just resting on its laurels.
Sony on the other hand is just resting on its laurels
Don’t forget raising the price of a PSN subscription pretty significantly.
While offering a significantly trashier service on PC vs. Gamepass.
Like damn, Streaming only? In a first world country where throttling and data caps is still a thing? Didn’t they learn anything from Google’s run with Stadia?
Well technically Valve kept the exact same price tiers, but the upgrade is much more substantial.
When Nintendo did something similar a few years back they charged $50 extra. And speaking of dominance in their relative space…
better APU,
?!?
For the form factor, the 7nm reduction to 6nm supposedly means less heat to deal with.
Cheaper? Call me when there’s games worth playing on it.
And doesn’t look ridiculous
I’m sure it costs less to make, but that’s not what you asked for.
At least in terms of the main chipset it might not be cheaper. Things are weird and costs at TSMC have been going way up the last few years.
If they made a version in a minimal rectangular box, I’d buy that. I really don’t understand why it has to look like a tube of toothpaste someone grabbed on one end
Imagine buying a gaming console for aesthetics. 🤣
The Xbox series X would be perfect for you
Call ME back when there’s more than like two exclusive titles I’m kinda interested in playing but not enough to spend PS5 money to do it.
For the hardware you get playstations are cheap. Look at the price of modern graphics cards.
That’s not playstation being cheap. That’s Nvidia and AMD price gouging their customers. Intel’s GPUs are starting to catch up and they’re reasonably priced for the most part.
Don’t forget the crypto miners causing an explosion in demand. They’re often willing to pay more than gamers are.
It looks like one of those knockoffs
lol now the memes have become real: it looks like a clearance bin 20 quid router.
“Slim”, base is yet as big as the regular model.
Sony rarely actually calls their revisions slim. It’s just specifications. For example, in the eyes of Sony a “PS4 Slim” is just a PS4 with a different model number attached. However, it’s a strong perception that Sony can’t ignore.
Disk Drive Hardware DRM? great one Sony. Ratchet and Clank coming to the PC already took me out of the market place for buying a console, and now this… Don’t reward bad unethical anti consumer behavior!
I was so disappointed in the slim model. I was hoping the redesign would make it look like a normal appliance I could have under my TV without looking weird, but they just cranked up the weird unnecessary GaMeR aesthetic. I don’t want a gamer wifi router with a popped collar.
Say what you will about the Xbox, but both of their consoles are at least functionally designed and pleasant to see.
I think that the original PS5 shape is fine. It’s a cool design. It could just do with being about the size of the original Xbox 360. I realIse that it’s not possible given the components & cooling inside before anyone jumps down my throat.
Nice trumpet, man!
My biggest question is why? It’s not that much smaller than the original, the design language is relatively the same, absolutely no changes to spec, this is for someone who is looking for the PS5 now as opposed to an upgrade
Revisions are meant to be cheaper to manufacture. Once the original model is sold out, they’re gone for good. And just keep in mind Sony doesn’t inherently advertise how slim a PlayStation is to sell it. It’s just specifications.
CAN I GET ONE IN BLACK, PLEASE!😡
I hate it. It’s like one of those “futuristic“ concept fan renders of what a next-gen console would look like except now its real.
Considering the OG’s propensity for getting gunked up with dust and overheating, I foresee some issue here.
They’re both ugly as fuck to be honest.
Uglyyyyyy
My cat enjoys sitting on my ps4 slim because it is warm. I’m not upgrading to ps5 until they release something flat and stable.
