Now that we just had our refesh with a lot of improvements, what else are you guys looking forward to in the Steam Deck 2?
I’ll go first with :
-
Thunderbolt 5/equivalent whatever USB labelling, this should allow me to finally combining my laptop and pc with almost no penalty on using eGPUs when in dock mode.
-
VRR Oled screen for battery saving
-
Generation improvement on the SoC
-
Availability for more countries (Australia please lord Gaben)
More battery life. I don’t care if it becomes thicker or heavier or something else. We had portable consoles that we could play from breakfast till dinner back then, and now it’s 2h on a good day? Fuck that, give me 4h minimum please!
I know external batteries exist but that’s like providing an 8GB SSD and using a 1TB SD card, it works but it’s not the same. (Though I’ll still use a power bank as well regardless seeing as I want to keep my phone and earbuds topped up anyway)
I might get trashed on but an easier way to dual boot windows please. like seamlessly.
Electronic-ink labelled, backlit buttons, so the layout and glyphs are highly customizable (e.g. to Playstation, Nintendo layouts).
RGB outline backlit.
Ultra powerful and silent solid-state active cooling (AirJet® by Frore Systems).
Aluminium alloy parts (sticks, shoulders and triggers).
Hall-effect sticks and hall-effect adaptive triggers.
New design for the enclosure, so an inserted microSD doesn’t get broken when opening it.
New interface to connect the Deck with the dock.
Back camera for AR gaming capabilities.
Laser virtual keyboard, camera-IA-driven virtual mouse. All this means when docked, Steam Deck is already a desktop PC without the need for additional devices or hardware.
Also, a pico projector integrated in the dock can emulate a big screen not only for gaming but for office stuff.
Face camera for eye aiming on FPS games.
VRR, 120 Hz OLED 8 inch screen.
2 or 3 sd card slots.
Integration with Alexa and Hey Google among other IAs, so we can dictate them some actions or vs gameplay.
…
I only wish they ship to more countries. For 2.5 years they should’ve gotten a lot of deals already
I would like the Steam Deck 2 have the capability to make Steamed Dumpling and Steamed Pork Buns…
The only major thing I would personally want is a bit more RAM. 24GB maybe. Some games need both lots of VRAM and lots of normal RAM. This is especially important when you set UMA bufer size to 4GB.
It’s not that important for me though. Not going to be a deal breaker even if they stick to 16.
Zen 5 cpu, no higher than 4.5Ghz. At least 16 CU RDNA4, no higher than 2.5Ghz. VRR OLED 120Hz, 8 Inch screen more than 800p but less than 1200p, keeping the same aspect ratio of the current SD. 24GB at least 9600MT/s RAM, 6 channel memory configuration. 55-60W battery. Reduce size(length) by about 10% Reduce weight to 600g or less. Thunderbolt 4 support. Sell to Australia.
VRR is a must. OLED is probably a given. I’d even be fine with the same 1280x800 resolution.
Spec bump.
Better buttons. Specifically the dpad; I don’t like it. It’s too mushy and I find I’m getting a lot of false-diagonals. Seriously, Valve, just buy a used Vita on eBay, take it apart and copy the dpad design 😁
eGPU Support, Dock Bundled in, OLED, Same Design
I came here to say eGPU capabilities. It’s really the only thing I want.
