Hi!

For a while now, I have been travelling while working, and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. I am a gamer, but I also use my laptop for work, but the only thing I need is a word processor. I was wondering if it would be possible to transform the steam deck into the perfect portable set up for both gaming and work. I saw that I would be able to connect the steam deck to a TV and use it like a switch, but would the same work with a keyboard, mouse, and a portable monitor?

Would it take up too much space? Is it even worth it? Could I even install a word processor on it? If it would, that would be the perfect set up for me, portable with an option to game on monitor or handheld, and set it up to work when I would need it to. Thank you for any suggestions and answers!

Probably the easiest way to get a word processor on the Deck is to install LibreOffice via flatpak (https://www.libreoffice.org/download/flatpak/). It should take up about 700 MB when installed, up to you whether that’s too much or not.

It’ll probably work pretty well for your needs, but unless you already have one that works, do some research before buying a portable monitor to make sure you get one that will work with the Deck. A lot of small / portable monitors that use USB connections rather than HDMI require proprietary drivers that will not work on the Deck.
