I made this exact mistake when the Switch OLED came out. I got caught up in hype, I bought the new one, and slowly it dawned on me that I just spent 300 extra dollars for exactly the same machine I already had, and a screen that, as good as it was, was NOT worth that 300 dollars.

If you don’t own a Steam deck, then go nuts! Do what you want.

If you already own a Steam Deck, you already own everything you actually wanted a Steam deck for. An OLED screen is not going to make the games you already play somehow magically better. You’re fine. Chill out

I returned my Steam Deck because of the lack of OLED. The Switch OLED was so worth it to me, makes the regular switch look like a toy.

It’s all dependant on personal opinion. I don’t regret upgrading from regular Switch at all, I love my Switch OLED.

I think people will reserve their opinion until they see more reviews and/or see it in person then want to upgrade.

Switch to switch oled was a true slight upgrade

This oled steam is what should have came in 2021.

I would love an oled steam deck. Watch ebay get flooded with old steam decks

I wonder if I could buy the needed accessories and do some upgrades by myself, especially the 50% battery life and 30 more fps,

I wouldn’t mind getting the OLED SD but quality control and Valve don’t go hand in hand in my experience. I had to send back 2 SDs before I got one that worked for longer than 1 month. I don’t want to deal with that again so I’ll stick with what I got since I know it works.

It’s not just the oled screen though. Dave2d did a review and they updated almost everything. The buttons are improved, there’s a bigger battery, a bigger fan, the ram is faster, the screen is slightly larger and has a 90hz refresh rate vs the og 60hz… not saying it’s a necessary upgrade, but it’s more than just oled

The Deck v. Switch argument here doesn’t quite match though. OLED performance is higher with a 90Hz refresh, better potential FPS due to the faster memory, longer battery life, etc.

That said, if you do already have a Deck, you’d be better served to just learn how to take it apart, and get a 1TB 2230 SSD from OWC for like, $70. Boom, now you don’t need an OLED Deck because you can just have more games to play now.

The Switch OLED felt sooo worth it to me. Going back to the original one and it looked horrible in comparison, plus the better build quality. OLED is just so much better
