I have very little experience with networking. I’m getting fiber internet installed from Cspire. I have a surfboard 8300 that I’m currently using with Xfinity cable internet. The technician said I can’t use my existing modem/router combo. The new service comes from a plate on the wall to an Ethernet cable, which my modem doesn’t have an input for, only a cable input. Can I purchase an Ethernet/coax adapter and be able to use my existing equipment? If so how will that effect my service? If not what would a recommendation be for purchasing my own equipment? I don’t want to rent theirs. Side note my house is small but two stories, I don’t need something that’s going to give me wifi on the other side of town.

Essentially you need a new router it sounds like. The modem isn’t used with fiber. There’s just an RJ45 port to plug a router in. Some of the providers make the ONT built into the router they give you…just gotta figure out what they have
