No, but you can adblock the shit out of it
I remember someone once writing “I could be rich if I invented a way to stab someone in the face through the Internet!” or something along those words.
This constant harassment should be illegal. They should not be able to prompt you every single time you use a service. There needs to be a “NO” option. Not “no thank you”, not “maybe later”, “NO!”.
I agree … but if you are standing in their store and they blast you with their advertising over and over again … they more or less can do whatever they want.
You have to step out of their space.
Use Firefox and stay away from Chrome.
Chrome is owned by Google … YouTube is owned by Google … so going onto their website using their web browser is like walking into their store using their limo. Since you are on their property and in their vehicle … they have all the ability to push whatever they want onto to you. You have no choice. You can’t walk into a Gap store and ask not see any Gap advertisements.
If you can visit their store using a different store front and a different vehicle … you at least have some options and ability to turn off features that you don’t want to see. At least you have a choice.
I’m on Linux with Firefox with uBlock Origin and I never see ads on Youtube
Unfortunately a lot of these services are becoming more akin to a utility than a clothing store though. You need them in some capacity to function in a modern life, and there are no alternatives, or every alternative engages in the same harassment.
[block element intensifies]
Don’t forget to block the invisible element that covers the whole screen. They add it after a few videos to try and stop video playback but any half tech savvy person would notice it.
It’s easy to spot. Prevents you from clicking and in the element picker, covers up the whole website.
It will still prevent you from scrolling. To shut THAT down you need to go fullscreen and back out. Pressing F twice is a fast way to do it.
Overall these are only temporary solutions. Keeping your adblock up to date (uBlock origin gets updated daily to combat YouTube’s shitty scripts) is the only foolproof way.
or just body:style(overflow:auto !important)
Hey that works too ty
You didn’t hear it from me but, Gray Jay .app
I just learned about this yesterday!
Damn if only there was an IPA build for iOS. Guess I’ll use this on my SHIELD. This is helpful since I see YouTube eventually going for users accounts to coerce them to disable their adblocker out of fear for their account.
EDIt: I do not see a ATV version yet so I’ll have to wait
Is this that Louis Rossman crap?
Wouldnt call a privacy respecting yt client that does exactly what I want crap
My only concern is that the licence allows them to update the app to a closed source version at any time
What does GrayJay have, that NewPipe doesn’t?
Does newpipe let you login now? I use revanced mostly coz newpipe won’t let me add to watch later coz there wasn’t login when I used it.
I guess I was never missing it, because I never used it. I don’t even have a google account.

Someone made it, and I have it. I like it.
When it dies, I’ll figure something else out. Stoic style.
goes incognito
Would you like to sign into Google???
NO THATS THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT
Would anyone want any toast?
We don’t want any grilled bread products!
Would you like some toast, though?
How about a hash brown?
Haha so original. I’ve never seen a “Shitting on YouTube Premium” post ever. I wish I could look at a different version of this or, “Fuck ads on YouTube”, every day for months. That’s what’s going to put Lemmy head and shoulders above reddit.
It’s actually funny how mad people get about YouTube ads.
Consider this. They’re used to a better product with less ads.
YouTube used to be a higher quality platform with more customisation options (did you know back in the day you could design your own Tumblr esque blog page as your channel page?) And a lot of things were added that cut costs alongside poor moderation and the black hole that is YouTube kids eating up content. Not to mention that nothing is done about content stealing content farms.
yet all we got in exchange was more ads.
It’s actually funny how some people aren’t annoyed by ads polluting their Internet experience.
Cope and seethe.
Only one coping here is you dude
