    Not sure if I have a mental illness but boy howdy the unwarranted praise from adults always felt pandering and uncomfortable. Like forced imposter syndrome as a child.

      Bingo. I think this one rings true regardless of mental health status. Kids can tell when it’s not genuine.

      I started showing signs around 13-14, finally diagnosed at 33. Too bad indeed. I often wonder how my life would have turned out differently if my parents figured this out and took measures. It ended up working out for the most part so far, but damn did it take a long time.

        I feel you. Didn’t get a diagnosis til around 27, but nothing really done about it until 32 or 33 as well. It’s really hard to not feel like a big chunk of your life was taken away, something I really struggle with. Still working a lot out at 43, so here’s to hoping.

          Exactly, it feels like something was taken. I found it helpful to grieve much like one would grieve the loss of a loved one. Just turned 40, and so much still left to figure out! But everything is looking better, even if just a little bit. I have a lot of hope.
