It isn’t, really. There’s no rule or other logical to pronounce GIF in any other way, unless you count author intent, in which case you would have to start every phone call with “ahoy-hoy” like Mr Burns since that’s what Bell proposed.
It is illogical if you say the reason for saying it with g is the same as in graphic. Just say you find it easier to read it or like it that way (that’s how i say it too)
