    Depends on how advanced it is. Dementia patients can sometimes see their relatives ‘for the first time in weeks’, even though they are visiting literally every day. Its heartbreaking.

      Yeah I watched a grandfather go through it. An interesting wrinkle is I’m trans. Me coming out occurred well before he was gone. For awhile we had to remind him who I was every time we met, mention that I’m actually this other person that’s in his memories. Once he lost the memories of my earlier self, we just stopped mentioning the trans thing to him at all and just simply introduced me to him as his granddaugther when I visited.
