Downloading file parts from the usenet before manually joining them and decoding them really made you more selective and intentional about which media* you consumed. Now I’m served 5 minute videos with a triple split of 6 second clips.

We should’ve never allowed internet onto our game consoles now we get buggy releases and worthless digital games that get revoked arbitrarily when you insult your government or local corporation.

I think that’s viewing the past with rose colored glasses tbh. It’s easy to ignore, or simply not know about, the bad aspects of an era one does not live in, and hard to have an accurate mental picture over just how bad those are or how often they occur. However, anything positive about a past time that is not present in ours, or is perceived as being absent, one can immediately resent the absence of as soon as one learns of it.

Propaganda has been a thing long before the internet and will likely be a thing until the complete collapse of human society.
The problem isnt that technology exists, its that we go through phases where we assume it will only ever be used to make our lives easier, not to subjugate us.
If “propaganda” = “psyops” and/or “social engineering”, it’s widely found in the natural world, TBF.
It’ll outlast humankind, and predates us by millions upon millions of years.
Well said. It’s arguably still a net good even as is because it’s easier than ever to verify it, whereas to get the propaganda message out, you’re competing for attention on the web instead of on the street, but on the street it’s not as easy to verify what you hear.
