U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has awarded a $16.7 million contract to purchase 6,000 pairs of gloves that can deliver painful electric shocks, saying officers would use them to control detainees and protesters who resist.
clearly the contracts are where the money is at. its never been about enforcement, or laws really… who cares if the gloves even are effective or not? as long as the government checks clear!
It just occurred to me that this is quite possibly the dumbest boondoggle purchase for cops in history.
Over 16 million dollars for 6000 pairs of gloves that are as much a danger to the wielder as to the target. Instead of, you know, a $50 pole that has been successfully used all over Asia for controlling criminals.
They’re spending 8 figures specifically to cause pain, while putting lives at risk (their own agents and their targets) instead of spending $300,000 for a tried and true tool that is used all across Asia with great success.
I think the USA is on the fast-track to self-bankrupting.

I know the idea is to torture with the gloves and try to maintain plausible deniability, but I’m just going to treat any law enforcement wearing gloves as though they are holding a weapon and protect myself accordingly.
