He’s not top 3 in the EPL. Not sure he’s top 10 in the world. Goes to show how over-hyped the World Cup is.

World class would mean he’d start for City, imo. He wouldn’t even start for Fulham.

It’s quite amusing that a few days ago you made a post about how ‘I the misuse of the term world class in today’s football bothers me.’ regarding people calling Harry Kewell world class at Leeds and now you’re posting this after obviously being absolutely rattled when people told you Martinez wasn’t world class.

We can all have opinions but at the end of the day individual awards are quite meaningless - if they meant something then he wasn’t even the highest placing keeper in the Balon D’or and then Bonou would be the best keeper in the world.

playing well in a seven games tournament does not make you the best player in the world when you have been mediocre at every other tournament

He conceded 8 goals from 12 shots on target at the WC, literally all he did well in was the 2 shootouts and that save

Yeah and he was awarded for his performances with the World Cup golden glove. That doesn’t mean he is automatically the best goalkeeper in the world for the year

Statistically speaking (based on the difference between post-shot expected goals and actual goals conceded - i.e. how good a goalkeeper is at stopping shots), Emi Martinez was the 6th best keeper in the league last season and is currently 4th this season. The season before last he was 16th. On another important metric for the modern goalkeeper - distribution, he’s extremely average. He’s 14th in the league for long pass completion this season, was 13th last season and 11th the season before. The one area he truly excels is claiming crosses. He’s currently ranked 3rd for percentage of crosses stopped, was 1st last season and 6th the season before.

It was a fix. Guy wasn’t even highest ranked keeper in balon dor ffs so how can he be best keeper?

Also if he’s that good how come Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and United were all on the market for a keeper in the summer and none of them wanted him?
