A controversy involving a teacher transitioning genders at Dorchester District 4 has drawn attention from state lawmakers, including a senator threatening to pursue a merger with Dorchester District 2.

Summerville Republican Sen. Tom Fernandez wrote in a Facebook post Aug. 11 that if board members at Dorchester District Four did not protect school kids from “being exposed to mental delusions and perversions,” he would stop protecting the district from consolidation efforts.
