Hey I know what your thinking but hear me out.

I’m 21 years old and my local is Brighton and-have a non-league team near me whitehawk 45min bus journey from me but supported Man United growing up ( bet you never heard that before). Supported United because only a couple of family members watched football and they were United fans (grandad and uncle). Grandad is sadly not here rip and uncle moved away, so don’t really have any connections or people to talk to about United.

Since about 16 I’ve been thinking about changing football team to a local, as it just seems right and I’ve lost connection with United each year growing up, as all I do is watch them on TV. When United lose it’s like I don’t care.

All I want to do is go to games and have a chat, watching a game all supporting the same team. So I’ve been thinking about supporting non league team Whitehawk across town from me as it looks like a good group of supporters and I don’t want to change to a Brighton fan now as it looks odd, especially as they are doing well. I feel like I can ease out of being a United fan going to Whitehawk games as tickets are cheap and easy to get, so I can go to games regularly. Plus, what’s better than helping a non-league team?

Is it bad to change teams? I know it’s not a popular thing to do, but surely this isn’t too bad?

Football should be about feelings, your feelings not others. If you don’t feel anything when watching a team you probably don’t support them. Find a team that gives you back the passion.

God this is such a pick me post aiming to get upvotes and pats on the back from changing to United to your local. All you want is for people to reply saying no you’re a hero for ditching United and supporting a fucking non- league side instead. You’re not a hero. You don’t deserve any praise.

Stand in the mirror and ask yourself this, “Would I still be doing this if Man United won the Treble this year?”

I’m afraid you have to file for divorce which may be a lengthy and complex procedure (I don’t know about UK specifics)

You should also consider a hymen reconstruction surgery for a higher chance of acceptance at your new club

When you are a kid a football team is picked out of a magazine, like choosing Pokémon cards.

Go to Brighton games / Whitehawk games and you’ll see football is really about going. That’s a good enough reason to switch.

They won’t write “Supported United, changed to Brighton” on your gravestone mate, it’s all bollocks anyway, enjoy life, do you.

People take this football nonsense too seriously, it’s 22 people kicking some inflated plastic about, enjoy it how you want to enjoy it.

If I could reset I’d not bother supporting anyone, I’d watch whoever plays good football and entertains me.

Just enjoy it the way you want to. Doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Support who you like
