If you use this when shittily blocking any roads or pathes in Germany the fine gets higher because the lights prove that you behaved like an asshole intentionally.

Seriously; fuck the people that just abandon their vehicles in emergency lanes with the hazard lights on.

“I’ll only be a minute” Fuck you, you’ll be more than a minute, your shit is in the way, and that ‘minute’ could and has literally been the difference between life and death in an actual emergency.

I hope your shit gets towed and you face a huge fine. Or a fire fighter smashes it up to get to a fire hydrant.

I really wish people that do this didn’t pull into the bike lane. Like, the cars aren’t getting by because they pulled into the bike lane. They are literally just deciding to block the cars AND the bikes. Like, I understand the instinct to “pull over”. But there isn’t really anything you’re doing to be less annoying by giving the cars 2-3 more ft of clearance.

Edit: I’m thinking about the typical two lane (each direction) road. They are still blocking a lane fully. People have to get over and zipper at the blocked lane.

When they block the bike lane, I get right in the middle of the car lane. It’s safer and I’ll just be a minute of course.

Leaving this here in hopes it cheers someone up. In Aus, thats the “thank you” button. A lot of times people are trying to change lanes in heavy traffic and no one lets you through. But when someone does, you hit the hazards for 2 seconds to give thanks to the person behind you who just let you through. I always found it wholesome. Sometimes you let someone through and they dont turn the hazards on and I’m like “wheres my thank you??” lol.
Sucks to hear that people are using their hazards to park illegally, that would infuriate me lol.

In the US turning on and off (or off and on) twice the headlights/running lights is the same. Though you’ll mostly only see truckers doing it.

We use it to warn people behind you, for example when a jam is coming up. To thank people, you blink left right left.

I was leaving my neighborhood last week and there was a car just parked right in the middle of the street. No hazard lights, no one in it, not even pulled over. Just parked in the middle of the travel lane. What’s more is that there were plenty of places to park that were closer to where he was delivering whatever the fuck than where he parked his shitmobile.

So what did I do? I stopped behind the parked car, laid on the horn until he came running back where I yelled at him to park his fucking shit and called him a fucking dipshit which felt pretty good.

I know what you’re thinking. “Oh yeah and everyone clapped”

    fuck you

On a somewhat related note, I was once driving down a highway, and a guy came up behind me at a frightening speed swerving around all the traffic with his emergency blinkers on. I couldn’t help but think that the emergency blinkers look like both turn signals at once, so maybe they just thought if they hit the emergency blinker button, they can switch lanes however they want to.

By the way, if somebody does come up and drive like that, with or without the emergency blinkers, just let them drive past, man. If you block them, you never know, you might be blocking a person with a real emergency. I know it might feel irritating, but with your limited information, the best thing for everybody is if that person gets past you. There have been cases in the past of medical emergencies where the driver was intentionally blocked from passing and a person in their car died.

In general it is better to have erratic drivers in front of you rather than behind. Much easier to control whether you collide into them than if they collide into you

A good lesson for life if someone is acting crazy on the roads is to let them past. No hill is worth getting your car damaged because you where in the right. The other guy is probably having a bad day so best let go.

Fuck the car getting damaged, it’s the risk of you dying because an erratic driver crashed into you. Just let them pass and choose life instead of pride.

I used to own a used Chevy Colorado work truck. It had the big white utility shell over the bed with the ladder rack on top.

If I were less-honest I could’ve bought a yellow vest and some orange cones and parked anywhere I wanted.

Anywhere there are lots of uber drivers. They will park in the middle of the street in front of my apartment building blocking the path while delivering someone’s overpriced meal.

I also despise those who use hazard lights to slowly drive around with a broken vehicle. If the fucking car is dangerous to drive DON’T DRIVE IT !

Hazard lights are meant to signify a hazard like an accident or damage driveway forcing you to do a “dangerous maneuver”. Not to warn others not to hit your car because you are doing something illegal.

I can understand limping it down the road to a safer spot. Not every one can afford a tow. In the UK your told to put the hazerds on and get into the hardsholder then limp (if you can) to the next junction.

Los Angeles, for one. Drive home from dropping kids off at daycare, ran into this four times in a 10 minute period-- two on a major street, blocking (admittedly light) traffic.

      Ubers, deliveries, Amazon vans… ugh.

In California I’ve seen it mostly done by Uber Eats drivers. In Massachusetts it’s done by everyone everywhere, but more generally Massachusetts drivers treat traffic laws more as traffic suggestions.

When I lived in Virginia people would park their cars in the fire lanes at strip-malls, usually right under the “fire lane: no parking or standing” signs, next to the curb parked yellow or red. They would turn on their hazard lights and go inside to get their dry cleaning or pick up coffee or whatever.
