One of the Heroic devs is working on project Xodus, which is aiming to make game pass and other windows store games work on Linux/steam deck. They already have Xbox logins, license checks, and game downloads working, but are still working on the games themselves.

An important note:

That being said, the Xodus project is targeting games using Microsoft’s newer GDK and MSIXVC format. Older apps that use the UWP format, such as many games released during the Windows 8 and early Windows 10 period (Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4), aren’t planned to be supported.

I’m still in the “Microsoft can fuck off and die” camp, so I don’t imagine I’ll be using this.

Guys even if you hate microslop, this is not a bad thing to have the option for those who do use it. If it gets more people over to Linux I only see that as a good thing.

Are you saying that they’ll intentionally sabotage attempts to play Microsoft store/game pass games outside of their platform due to malice, or that they’ll constantly break their own systems through incompetence and vibe coding?

Can’t wait to give Microsoft ever more money for not owning my games. Profit off of me harder, daddy.

to be honest i dont care about game passes, i prefer to buy my games on gog so i can have them drm free. But this is indeed a cool thing. A lot of people still dualboot for these xbox gamepass things.

I hate Microslop just like anyone else, but the Forza Horizon games currently have me have a dualboot system. (Got them ALL in the xbox store)

I’d do this if it meant I could finally play Halo 5, but I’d likely unsubscribe immediately after. And I’ve been eyeing Phantom Dust on the Windows Store for a while.

Game Pass doesn’t feel worth installing/dual-booting Windows over, so I appreciate that this project exists. In a roundabout way, I think this could lessen folks’ dependence on Microsoft in the long run.

While I will never support Microsoft through this or Windows; I see the value in this for getting others to switch to Linux. This is one less excuse to continue using Windows.

Agreed, no amount of money or effort id endorse this. Especially when you easily spend 30-50$ to build a decent indie and non indie game list just for your steamdeck!
