Back into the Grim Dawn we go!
I fucking love Grim Dawn! Started a new nightblade/berserker. It’s way better than Nightblade/arcanist but still scratches the itch poison/ice dual wielding.
Friend and I started another run when the DLC dropped.Went occultist and the game rnged me like 5 drops with hellhound levels…so against my will I’m running around with a 15 skill on Hellhound. Dude just obliterates trash haha.
Has anyone played this co-op? How is it? I saw that only one player can see the text/interaction screens at a time… Is that pretty annoying?
I have played through the game in co-op and solo many times. It is GREAT co-op. The limitation, more of a feature really (i’ll explain) you’re referring to is that only one person in the group can interact with the same NPC at once if it is quest related (sellers and such do not have this limitation). What this also entails is that only one person in the group needs to accept or return a quest for the whole group. You don’t all need to portal back to the NPC to turn in a quest, just one person can so it while other people go turn in different things, sell items, etc. It is a convenient time saver in my experience, but I can see this perhaps being annoying on your first time playing through the game when you want to see and hear all the dialog/more.
Haven’t played it in coop, but it is an ARPG, meaning text/interactions are neither common nor needed (although i always enjoyed the codex entries one can collect)
And the game is…?
Grim dawn
Ah, thanks. I thought it was some place in a game. My mistake!
It’s the name for the currently occurring Apocalypse in game.
tbf i thought it said “grim dark” which is commonly used for Warhammer
Here I thought it was POE lol
POE2 of Dawn
I’ve been playing this game again since the newest DLC released and I’ve been having a blast. Definitely my favorite in the genre.
Oh thank you for reminding me. Glad to hear it’s doing well
Fine I’ll make another 5 builds if it’ll make you happy!
LoL it wont stop a those 5 builds, i can tell you as much haha
Aww…the classic. The real argp. Now with its last big update+dlc.
Berserker+occultist felt kind of squishy to start off but once you get some regen and bleed going I’m having a lot of fun.
It IS squishy in the beginning, but part of that is due to the difficulty tuning changes. I’ve just been playing as if I was building a character for hardcore.
Occultist has always been my favorite secondary class - there’s something for everyone in there ;-)
I did pox build as my first playthrough and it was so satisfying to watch stuff just melt. I’m having a ton of fun with all the movement skills + evade as a werewolf. Stack bleed jump around and throw out a pox on large packs.
I spent countless hours on D2 and Grim Dawn had been the only game since to have that same feel for me.
Plays like an old school ARPG. Love it. I think they added WASD movement after the devs very publicly stated WASD movement will never be added into the game.
They did add it, it isn’t great and you can still firmly ignore it.
Couch Diablo!
I hope Titan Quest II can recover. I never cared for the aesthetic of Grim Dawn, but Titan Quest I loved.
Recover? It sold well, and it’s not v1.0 yet.
Looking at the reviews, it seems to be in a pretty rocky place. It may be because it is in EA, but it sounds like they are struggling with the fundamentals, and with the original release timeframe being… right about now, it doesn’t bode well.
This is where I’m at. I love grim dawn, but Titan Quest was my jam as a kid. Wish 2 was looking like my hopes for it
I’m absolutely loving TQ2, it’s just more of the game you love with modern polish.
What do you mean by recover? Has something gone wrong with development?
Same here! They really turned up the difficulty, so new users beware (or delight I guess if you are into that).
Yeah veteran has been a challenge to say the least. I’ve had to use movement skills a lot more than I am used to. Not sure how werewolf form works but even with a sword and board i was getting nuked occasionally with some unique spawns.
Yeah, I’ve been forced to use the evade skill to avoid the slow highly telegraphed attacks from some enemies that can knock me down below half health. Werewolf doesn’t add any stats by default, so it mostly handles it by a healthy amount of attack damage converted to health. That works well most of the time, but as it is still a melee class the extra bite of ground effects (think aether, poison, or fire on the ground) since the update are now rarely things you can sit still in for more than a moment. Those were always something to avoid, but they seem a bit tweaked now. I definitely feel like I am kiting more bosses than I normally would be.
It took a friend and I a few dozen hours to hit a difficulty spike. Before that, it was easy enough that we had to turn the difficulty up a notch.
I realized that quickly. I only play hardcore in ARPGs, and the character show in in the screenshot is already populating my graveyard, something that hasn’t happened to me that quick in a long time (most of my chars die somewhere in the transition from veteran to ultimate)
It’s a fun game! I played it for around 10 hours on steam deck. It’s a bit difficult to get the controls right but it’s a blast when it works
Never played it but screenshot makes me think of Diablo II. I miss that game. I think it was the first game that made me feel like my trackball was the superior choice (to a mouse).
Game requires spyware (Windows) to play on a computer, but somewhat ironically, I have an Xbox, so I could play it there. (Also have a PS3 and a Switch.) Gameplay trailer on their website makes it look more like an action game than an RPG though. Either way it looks like a bit of fun.
I play Diablo II Resurrected on a regular basis. I’m on Fedora.
Installation procedure was pretty simple.
Running Lutris, use the installation instructions for the BattleNet launcher.
Once you get that set up, log in like normal and install D2R through the launcher. Once installed, you can create a shortcut to launch D2R by duplicating battlenet and changing the exe to the newly installed D2R and add launch options to log in straight to your account without the launcher.
FWIW, I’ve only ever played grim dawn on Linux via proton.
Nowadays there’s Diablo 2 Resurrected which runs fine under Linux using Proton.
Also, there is a long running community mod (since 2016) for Grim Dawn called Reign of Terror which tries to replicate the D2 feeling in Grim Dawn - just be aware that although it already has been updated to work with the new expansion, there might currently be some unexpected issues around.
Which game requires Windows to run? I run diablo 2 ( resurrected) on Linux.
I’ve run it through battle.net ( over steam ) and you can buy I directly through steam as well. You’d need to link your steam account to your battlenet, but it works fine.
Unless you mean grim dawn. I haven’t tried that one on Linux, but protondb claims it’s platinum.
Maybe you’d like this https://www.projectdiablo2.com/ works fine on Linux thru lutris n proton
I was looking for d2 experience but alas this game presented zero challenge for higher difficulty modes. Only 2 opponents are giving trouble - those gods (optional boss fights), and mostly cause they heal themselves faster than I damage.
Kind of sad given how d2 challenges you from nightmare right away.
Played thru this a million years ago and saw it on the front page of steam the other day. Def guna check it out again
I’ve got thousands of hours in this one! It’s my all time favorite ARPG. The only thing that even gets close to this is Last Epoch, but that’s a completely different feeling to play.
