Hopefully this lasts. Media-induced reprieves from poor mental health have always been transient to me, hopefully it will work for you. Though, these days I’m more insane than depressed so Jojo sounds right up my alley.

What’s the anime about? I’ve only seen memes.
It’s about the adventures of the Joestar (yes, “Joe-Star”) family across the course of multiple generations, with each part - more-or-less self-contained series, of which there are now nine in manga, six of which have finished anime adaptations and the seventh of which is coming out at the moment - following a different descendant of the original main character, Jonathan Joestar, as they fight various supernatural forces of evil across the world.
The first part was written in the 80s and is in some ways a parody of certain manga coming out at the time, mainly Fist of the North Star, but it develops into so much more. I definitely recommend watching the anime, the first two parts are adapted into a single 26 episode series that should give you the flavor of what to expect with the rest. The next part is almost double the length at 48 episodes, and some consider it a bit of a slog in the middle, but it’s still very good. Then the next three series, the adaptations of parts 4, 5 and 6, are extremely good and have maybe some of the best episodes of anime I’ve seen. Part 7 is coming out now and looks to be equally as good, although hamstrung by Netflix’s Bizarre release schedule.
It’s a big commitment to watch all of it, but as a whole it’s probably one of my favorite animes.
If one wanted to get into it now I might recommend starting from Steel Ball Run and seeing if they like it. SBR is in a whole separate continuity to the first 6 parts and while it does call back to them in slightly spoilery ways like the designs of some characters, there’s nothing that actual spoils the plot of the original continuity. It’s also a lot better written and drawn than the first few imo. Only problem is that Netflix are POS and releasing the episodes in the most convoluted way possible
So each part follows a character named Jojo who gains supernatural powers and fights other people with supernatural powers! Each part has different themes and everything, and in Parts 1 and 2 you have Hamon which is magical sun breathing and Part 3 introduces Stands which are ghosts you can summon that have special abilities (e.g. Crazy Diamond can repair things and it’s super interesting how this ability is used it’s super useful, and Golden Experience can give life to objects). Now there is a high amount of gore and blood too, so watch out, and the show is pretty uplifting!

it’s genuinely so Bizarre and refreshing compared to like every other anime and manga out there, not saying its perfect (with stuff like female rep early on moreso than now) but its probably my fave manga
