Since there is a new album coming out and I don’t want to go to the other site to see rankings how about posting some here?
Personally a fan of the earlier stuff, I’ve never really clicked with Branns vocal contributions and have checked out in recent years but will miss Brent’s vocals and guitar contributions immensely.
- Blood Mountain
- Leviathan
- Remission
- Crack The Skye
- Hushed and Grim
- Cold Dark Place EP
- The Hunter (Ok)
- Emperor / One More Around the Sun (Bleh)
- Call of the Mastodon (Not really listened)
Blood Mountain grew on me as an album, overtaking the obvious choice. Hushed needs a bit of culling, The Hunter is a bit scattershot and the last two listed are not my cup o tea/.
I’ve only listened to a few of their albums. (I should probably fix that)
Of the ones I’ve listened to enough to form an opinion, I’d rank them
-
Leviathan
-
Hushed and Grim
-
Remission
I listened to Crack the Skye once or twice and enjoyed it, but I’m not sure where I’d put it
-
yep. Put Call of the mastodon above hushed and grim, they’ve been disappointing since Crack the Skye.
Also liked their earlier stuff more, but still enjoy most of their discography. My ranking definitely shifts around a bit depending on the day, but:
- Leviathan/Blood Mountain
- Once More Round the Sun (my hot take ig)
- Crack the Skye
- Remission
- Hushed and Grim
- The Hunter
- The Emperor
Cold Dark Place could probably go above Hushed, but haven’t listened to either much, same with Call. My biggest issue with Emperor is that it’s the only mastodon album my dad likes/tolerates, so I’ve listened to it in the car way too much for an album I think is just ok
