Bubble’s burst. Often happens when a team goes through a long period of consistently winning close games and rides a wave of optimism, which in the end breeds overconfidence and complacency. Once they lose a few games they start to forget how they won in the first place. Wonder if there’s any psychological theories/concepts to explain this?
