Yeah, I love Linux and I use it almost exclusively for gaming, but sometimes I have to get games to work by Wine reading source code and using strace. The amount of times I’ve needed to debug or give up has become minimal (Valve is amazing for Linux) but some games just plainly refuse to work.

I wish anticheat wasn’t so anti-VM, because passthrough VMs are quite easy to set up using scripting, and it would make for a perfect solution for games. Sadly, almost every game that doesn’t run on Linux also doesn’t run on a VM, so I don’t think putting a lot of effort into making passthrough VMs accessible to the masses makes much sense at the moment.

We’ve gone from “some games work on Linux” to “most games work on Linux” in just a few years, and that’s great! I hope Valve gives Steam Machines another go to keep get the Linux gaming momentum going so we can go to “almost all games work on Linux”.

I don’t see why some people lie and pretend everyone can do all of their gaming on Linux. Some games don’t work and deceiving people into trying Linux onto to disappoint them won’t help anyone.
