I can’t find a US inflation calculator that goes back further than 1913, and Johnson died in 1893, but if she’d died 20 years later, it would have been the equivalent of $1.1m.
These days that’s barely enough for 7.5 cats
less than 10k per cat. That’s probably enough to feed for 2-3 years and then put down.
