    Turning AC on and off actually consumes more power then just leaving it on to do its job.

    I also just wash my hands, and look out the window. But that’s me.

      That depends on a number of factors, including how long it’s left off. Running for 20 minutes straight is less runtime than three minutes out of every 20 minutes in the eight hours I’m gone (72 minutes total). I haven’t actually measured it, but that’s in the ballpark.

      I could stop, wash my hands, unlock my phone, set the timer, and resume what I’m doing. Or I could just say “hey Google, set a timer for 40 minutes” and not have to do any of those things.

      I could look out the window, but that doesn’t help much when it’s still dark out, nor does it tell me about the weather conditions eight hours from now when I’m leaving work. It could be clear and warm now, but there could be a storm system on the way.
