So I’ve started getting into fan cam footage from live band shows posted by some dude in Japan (Tokyo I think) which has exposed me to music/bands I dig that otherwise would have never, EVER crossed my radar (shoutout to q23 on Youtube)

This got me thinking: what other music could I discover by putting in ‘Live at [x]’, in the appropriate language, in Youtube (bonus points if someone can point me to another service or someone on Peertube or something)?

Will share my own venue list for Ottawa, ON Canada in the comments later today/tomorrow.

Milwaukee has dome pretty cool old historic venues I’m sure there’s since cool stuff out there:

The big 3: Pabst Theater Riverside Theater Turner Hall Ballroom

Smaller venues: Cactus Club The Bacroom Lineman’s

The show producers Cercle had a series of techno DJ events at some amazing locations:

I know it might be cliche but Massey Hall is probably my favourite venue I’ve been to. I’ve only gone twice but loved the venue almost as much as the shows themselves.

Congratulations, you have now introduced me to Thee Ultra Bimboos and I will be forever grateful. Deep pool of stuff with this venue, excellent comment!

Edit: Holy shit, this place has been around forever! Found some stuff from a DVD rip for a show in 1974. God damn, thanks dude!

The only place I know is one called La Traviesa, in Torredembarra, Catalonia, northern Spain. I just checked and to my surprise there is a bunch of videos on youtube.

The one that is the best to make a weekend trip out of is the Stone Pony Summer Stage. It is an outside stage next to the beach in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

I’ve been volunteering at Milwaukee’s Summerfest this year and it’s a pretty cool place. Multiple venues from the largest the AmFam Amphitheater to several smaller stages.

The only issue I really have with it, is with the stages all outdoors the sound quality is really bad for the most part. A couple of the bands have had a good Front House engineer that made the best of it though. Last night Kaleo finished out the Miller Light stage and they actually sounded pretty good. Never thought I’d listen to an Icelandic Blues band. Vertical Horizon was on earlier… Instamatic is just not the same without the Professor though. (FYI: Neil Peart was on the drums for the studio recording of that song.)

An outdoor amphitheater that actually sounds great is the Riverbend on the east side of Cincinnati, right on the Ohio river. I’ve seen several concerts there back when I lived in that area. Santana, Live (the band), and even the Cincinnati Pops under Erich Kunsel played there and it always sounded great. The best was probably the Pops playing the 1812 Overture… They used REAL F$%$KING CANNONS! It was awesome.

    @History in Toronto

Can very much agree. In the past couple of years I’ve seen Strumbellas, Band of Horses, Paul Weller, Echo and the Bunnymen…

    Superb venue.

Will probably update as I think of more/add common genre family tags. If other Ottawans (the like between three or five of you I know are here) see this and want to add something, particularly for the defunct list, let me know.

    Active
    House of Targ
    Dominion Tavern
    Rainbow Bistro
    Irene’s
    Gabba Hey (active-ish, kinda sorta)
    Cafe Nostalgica
    Overflow Brewing Company
Bronson Centre (usually slightly bigger, by my definition, acts)
Avant Garde Bar (may need to phrase as Avant-Garde Bar sometimes)
    Jazz@248 (also search Jazz 248 or Jazz248)
    The Twenty Seven Club
    Meow! That’s Hot
Minotaure (technically Hull but I’m adding it)
    Live on Elgin
    Red Bird

    Defunct
    Cafe Dekcuf
    Barrymore’s
    Brass Monkey
Ask a Punk (noted there might be some newer stuff tagged with this anyway)
Pressed Cafe (there was actually a series on local cable called ‘Live at Pressed’, if memory serves)
Zaphod Beeblebrox (also search just Zaphod’s)
    Cinqhole
Glue Pot Pub (there’s also one in Australia you may get footage from)

Not everyone likes your country-fried music, Bluegrass_Addict!

(This is a joke, good to hear from you dude. You are right, this is a glaring omission and has been rectified).

Unfortunately, I’ve only heard legends about Zaphods, missed the boat on that one personally. Lots of band footage on the web though!
