Are you looking at 3.0, 3.2, 4.0? These are revisions of USB - the higher, the faster.
The higher… the fewer.
Except for USB 3.2 gen 2, which can in some cases be slower than USB 3.2 gen 1, formerly known as USB 3.1.
And USB 4, which defines two different possible operating speeds, one of which is equal in speed to USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (not faster than it)
And USB 4 Version 2 (lord help me) which defines a mode in which the upstream speed is halved in exchange for faster downstream speeds.

The higher the number, the newer the generation of USB. Mostly it means they have faster data transfer speeds and can output more power when charging devices.
They’re revisions to the USB standard. USB stands for “Universal Serial Bus.” In the before times there used to be different connectors and formats for sending data over wires for a lot of things.
