An update on Konnan.
In early March 2026, it was reported that AAA Hall of Famer Konnan was hospitalized in San Diego, California, due to medical complications, and one of his legs was amputated.
An update on Konnan was provided by Vince Russo during a recording of The Coach and Bro! show. Russo shared details of a phone call he had with Konnan, and it was relayed to him that Konnan underwent a double leg amputation. He also shared that WWE took care of Konnan’s medical bills.
“You know, Konnan, I’ve known Konnan forever and Konnan, man, he had my back at WCW in 1999 and I’ll never forget that. Konnan has gone through a double leg amputation. Yes, both legs and you know, I was smartened up on it. I knew he had the one leg amputated and the second one was in question. That was the last time I talked to him, probably about two months ago. They had to remove the second one. So I called Konnan yesterday. I didn’t talk to him long, because he’s very weak. He’s going through grueling rehabilitation. You know, learning how to — I can’t even imagine that. We can’t. You can’t imagine that. So he really, really sounded exhausted so I’m like, ‘Brother, go relax. We’re praying for you, we love you’ and all that but, I do want to point this out. Konnan said to me that the WWE has paid every single cent of his medical bills. Yeah, and that’s got to be pointed out and that’s got to be said… He said, ‘Vince, the WWE have paid every penny and I was only working with them for a short time.’”
Before his hospitalization, Konnan was working with WWE’s Lucha Libre AAA brand and served as the color commentator alongside Corey Graves and J.B.L. (John Bradshaw Layfield). The current AAA commentary team is Graves, JBL, and AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio.
I usually don’t believe a thing Russo says, but i saw this story pop up yesterday and no one has disputed it yet so I guess it might be true.
How many wrestlers now got leg amputation? Just Konnan and Buff Bagwell?
What leads to that? With Buff it was infection? I wonder if it’s from injecting roids or pain killers through the years?
Marty Jannetty lost a foot earlier this year too. I’m think it’s just from the years of abusing their bodies and not giving themselves enough time to heal up. Although I’m sure all the stuff they used to get through the pain didn’t help things either.
Konnan is diabetic. It’s not horribly uncommon for older diabetic people who are struggling to require amputation.
Buff Bagwell was in a car accident in 2020 while under the influence of drugs. It injured his kneecap so badly that he’s had several surgeries to try and get it fixed. So he finally had it amputated (according to the linked article).
Marty Jannetty had sepsis in his foot for three years, and the doctors said amputating it might help. Not sure what caused the sepsis, but it seems like a leap to me that he’d be injecting anything into his one foot.
Kerry Von Erich famously wrestled with a false leg for years without telling anyone. He injured his foot in a motorcycle accident (probably while under the influence of drugs) and then re-injured it by trying to wrestle on it too early. So they had to remove it.
So no, in these cases there isn’t any correlation between injecting things and leg amputation.
