When they don’t try to do what he wants them to.

He wants Raya to invite pressure, for example against City. Mistakes are going to happen, that’s life, sticking to the plan despite those mistakes is important and takes a lot of mental strength, especially in a high pressure situation like a goalkeeper

Don’t really understand this. You can’t spend the summer talking about how you’re signing players to create competition for places in every position then say that poor performances won’t get players dropped.

I understand that what Arteta says to the media and what he says to the players behind closed doors are two very different things, so it’s better to ignore his press conferences before games.

But r/ArsenalFC plastics will try and convince you otherwise lol. Ramsdale making mistakes was never the reason he got dropped. Arteta has never said that but you people love to put words in his mouth for whatever reason.

It is clear that Ramsdale is not going to play at least that bad form of raya continue for a long time. If we see something similar to Willian that everyone is claiming for being replaced for a long time that’s the only way Arteta is going to play Ramsdale, Arteta already made he’s mind that Raya is the starting keeper.

I don’t think Raya is in bad form though. Things are just being overblown because this situation seems so GD polarising at the moment. However, if he continues making more mistakes then I’m sure he will get dropped for Ramsdale.

Rightly so. Anyone gets dropped out of the XI out of ARTETA’s decision. Not out of any cherry picked stats or “shaky” performances. I didn’t see him getting dropped even after the chelshit game, let alone the city game. He makes mistakes trying to play the way the manager wants him to. If his mistakes when attempting to play from the back is anyone’s fault, it’s Arteta’s and that’s exactly why he isn’t getting dropped because Arteta knows better than any of us (shocking, I know)

Guys I’m seeing the same point about “Oh Arteta is lying, he just picks favourites even if the mess up”. It really isn’t that complicated.

Boss says he’s creating competition for places.

Also says he will not drop players for making mistakes.

Therefore, his criteria for competition is not mistakes made, it’s ability to fit the system. And Raya fits better than Ramsdale.

You’re viewing Raya attempting a pass that gets cut out as a mark against him: for Arteta, I suspect it would be a mark against him if he had the opportunity to attempt it, and instead chose to clear it (which is exactly what Rambo was likely to have done).

Same with Raya standing in the centre of the box for Mudryk’s goal: fans and pundits see that and assume that’s a mark against him, but actually It would’ve been a mark against him if he stayed on his line and allowed the cross to go unchallenged.

If we’re going by his logic, why did Ramsdale lost his spot in the first place? He hasn’t been making the kind of errors that Raya made since he came on.

I get that he’s a better passer, but he’s also very prone to make mistakes. Not to say that Ramsdale is the safest out there, but I can’t remember him looking as shaky as Raya has for us.

If he’s fair he should let Ramsdale back into the line-up, because based on his performances so far, Raya has left a lot to be desired.

If this is the case can we just accept Raya has been signed as our number one and for whatever reason Arteta has decided to make Ramsdale backup. Whether you agree or not with the decision by Arteta I feel like this idea of having 2 number ones is such a distracting discourse

    I don’t get this.

Why keep ramsdale instead of selling him if you’re not going to drop Raya regardless of how many mistakes he makes.

What happened to the idea of having 2 no1s compete. Ramsdale/Raya situation is completely different than other positions.

Why put all your eggs in the basket of a player who isn’t even ours, is merely on loan and has not looked like a massive upgrade at all. Ramsdale is our player and is 3 years younger. Raya is a loanee.

I really love Ramsdale, I can fully accept that we need to upgrade because he isn’t word class but the way this is going down makes no sense at all to me. And as a fan, I feel gutted for Ramsdale as well.

Why keep ramsdale instead of selling him

Well an opportunity to do so hasn’t even happened yet, so no point trying to judge a decision to sell or not

Why put all your eggs in the basket of a player who isn’t even ours

All reports suggest the “loan” was nothing more than trick accounting and that we’ve basically locked into the purchase. It’s happening, he’s our player.
