How can we help Kbin with their spam problem without having to defederate them?
Why is is such an issue for Kbin relative to Lemmy (like lemmy.world etc)? Are the larger Lemmy instances better funded or have better mod recruitment or is it a geographical thing?
/kbin speaks ActivityPub but is an entirely different software stack. It has some big bugs with federation (specifically around admin actions like spam removal).
The primary instance (kbin.social) also doesn’t have a very good team of mods/admins keeping up with the influx of spam.
Lemmy was about two years old when the reddit exodus happened, whereas /kbin had only been around for about a month. Its sole developer/admin is very overwhelmed just trying to keep everything running (and trying to, you know, live).
The project needs help, but I don’t think Ernest has enough trustworthy people in his circle to delegate responsibilities.
and trying to, you know, live
Developers truly are the most selfish breed of bastard.
I don’t know, but 90% of the spam I see is from new accounts on Kbin.
I’m all for diversity in the Fediverse, but something’s not working right over there.
Mod actions don’t federate over so even if it’s removed over there we still see it on Lemmy.
I’m hoping mbin, the new kbin fork, receives more active development to fight this.
Couldn’t come up with a question yourself eh? :)
How do I survive without pooping for 3 days? Don’t ask why.
Eat nothing and stay still. No caffeine or anything like that. Take some Immodium
Edit: for real tho, y? You’re not "PUNKDing someone or in the planning stage, are you?
Meme from around reddit migration
Thanks
Edit: it annoys me that it didnt occur to Brave that 😂
the nostalgia.

…and don’t ask why
You’ve got me way more intrigued than A) I was and B) I should be at all hehe
What happened to trick or treating. I bought big candy bars last year and only got two groups. It was so sad
When I bought my house a few years ago I was really excited to have trick or treaters. I’d been in apartments or dorms for the previous decade and grew up in a rural area so I’d never really gotten to go out myself, let alone give out candy to trick or treaters. I’d bought like 24 big candy bars and when I was putting up some decorations in my yard I got into a conversation with my neighbors about Halloween and asked them about how many trick or treaters they usually get.
They told me they thought they probably got around 200-300 the previous year. I thought they were joking but no, they were definitely not.
I planned to spend Halloween playing board games with a few friends and answering the door every so often to give out candy and see kids in cool costumes. But I bought waaaaaay more candy and it still wasn’t enough.
I basically didn’t sit down until we finally turned out the lights and hid for the rest of the night. There was a literal line of kids all the way down my driveway… multiple times throughout the night… Saw a couple fun costumes but a surprising amount of kids (especially around high school age) weren’t wearing any costume at all. Just dragging giant garbage bags full of candy.
Even with my neighbors warning I was totally blown away. Completely outside my expectations.
I guess what I’m saying is that I wish I could share some with you.
Its coming, little buddy 🎃 u should, like, put out a table or stand you dont care about and put something “neat” for people and passersby to play with or check out.
Like a zen sand garden box thing, or build a giant one and let people know to feel free to engage with it and you won’t send them away or something
That’s a good idea. I was so bummed because I’ve been looking forward to being an adult and getting to hand out the candy while my friends and I watch a movie or something. Only getting a few groups was such a bummer
I gurantee if you do something like this, you’ll prolly have to like set one of those theatre rope things and have an official “closing time” to beat 'em all back
Did you like just “adult” recently (I mean via age not maturity angle)?
No I have been for awhile but I lived in apartments for a long time
Ah k. Yeah, let me know how it works out
I like this idea. I might also reccomend, among other, perhaps similar, ideas to get a similar effect, and make use in this way of they ground floor house :.
- putting out a ‘free’ table/stand. like, a table, with a sign, and stufd on to, fthats free, die passerby. Some have been quite sucessfull.
-‘tiny free library.’. especially if there isn’t one nearby allready. there’s quite a lot of fun designs for these our there, to fit whatever style ore space. and, you could add halloween themed book to it, or any books pretty much. local bord banned a book you liked? add a copy to your local tiny library. ads 2,… and some complementary skeleton themed bookmarks.
–a bench. nice place to rest. maybe addaa tree or aomwthing for ao. e shade of in a especially warm region. benches are fun, or can be. and yiu can paint it in oranges and bakam strops, with bays, and pkinh.
… -ooh, and you coild be like that one, well probably more than one, house that keeps up some halloween decor for longer. a way to signal to potential trick or teeter and show personality oerhaps?
-±idk, hallowwn is fun., for many ppl. happy nextaand future Halloweens. Halloween 🦇 🎃 🦇 🎃
Here in Australia it is rarer, and surprisingly early in the afternoon, but the only way your house gets a visit is if it is heavily decorated. Kids don’t want to annoy neighbours not in on the fun. Make sure you dress up the house so they know to make a try.
What’s the best way to implement Access Control Protocol on my WebDAV server that uses generic streams for resources, so that it can be agnostic to storage systems through adapters like the file system adapter?
I was thinking to have another kind of adapter for users/groups/permissions. Or should I add that functionality to the existing adapters? I’m not sure how to proceed.
It also needs to work with generic authenticators, like this one that authenticates with PAM.
Great question, you really higlighted the problem. You already know the answer for this question and I believe that this is the perfect challenge for you and I think you are ready to be this project’s manager. You have my full suport, just let me know before compromising any budget. Don’t thank me for the oportunity, thank yourself for your proactivity.
Wow, based on this comment I’m pretty sure you’re qualified to be my boss.
Thank you, I have an MBA lol
Magnets, how do they work?
They’re powered by the blood sacrifices of wizards. The modern computing Era has put a real dent in the wizard population. Not many people are willing to talk about the problem. When I asked my representatives to place sane limits on licensed wizard hunting to preserve their population, I was basically laughed out of the room. It’s a serious problem!
What’s the best horror film for Halloween?
The best horror film for Halloween isn’t a horror film, exactly. It’s a cartoon miniseries called Over the Garden Wall. We put it on for the Halloween party every year.
Oh hell yeah, we just finished this year’s rewatch last night
The Ring is more psychological but its the only vanilla horror I care for
Nightmare Before Christmas or anything Tim Burton, really
That’s a Christmas movie and you know it
It has a Halloween department
Beam Stoker’s Dracula by Francis Ford Coppola
Poltergeist 1 & 2 (originals)
Hellraiser 1 & 2 (originals)
The Woman In Black
If you get a common cold in spring/summer, shouldn’t you call it a “common warm”?
How/where do I find approximatly $10,000,000 cos engineering just aint gonna cut it.
I am willing to sacrifice morality and possibly a portion of my soul.
Become a politician, then sell out to a corporation
I said a portion of my soul not the whole godamn thing.
Start a tech company, then sell out to a corporation.
Already working on that
If anyone had a question to ask they would make a post here themselves. 🤔
Some people don’t think their thoughts are good enough to warrant their own post. But they might be more receptive to making a comment.
Why hasn’t anybody taken over the Stratego Multi Player app?
