at this point, is the entirety of Disney just their (in)famous legal department?
Taking the Oracle approach
I’m OOTL
- Disney has regularly been laying off large swathes of their creative staff, and are now adding TV & film staff and and finance staff, but no mention of legal staff
- Disney is notorious for their legal team going after anyone who even thinks of touching their IP (also why everyone enjoyed the spectacle of DeSantis threatening Disney)
EDIT: if you have four hours, watch how they managed to disappoint a Disney fan, a Star Wars fan, and a theme park fan all in one go
That video is a great watch. She does a fantastic job of breaking down why the new Star Wars hotel sucked and then closed down. I watched it over a few days - it’s broken up into little chunks so you can stop and start it if you don’t have 4 spare hours.
She relates the hotel to the general trend of service/experience degradation that Disney is seeing now. It’s a function of there being zero legitimate competition - nobody else is opening a hotel themed after Star Wars, and rich nerds will pay any amount to be in that universe, even for a brief moment. Instead of maximizing the experience, which is why people wanted to go, they cut as many corners as they could to take in the maximum profit.
I won’t spoil more plus she does a better job of explaining. This video an exhaustively compiled labor of love, but she didn’t love her experience at the hotel. Instead, her heart was broken when she saw what a soulless money grab it was, so she was compelled to document its many failings.
That’s really helpful thanks
Can we all please ensure that their AI slop crashes and burns when they start rolling it out?
Oh it will be in EVERYTHING. Basically you’ll need to boycott all media after 22 thats not indie made and proven AI free
