“You’re gay, so you’re going to represent the company at the gay pride parade.”

    “I’m not gay.”

    “Yes, you are.”

“No, I’m not. I’ve got a wife, and three kids.”

    “You act gay.”

“How do I ‘act gay?’ I’m just myself”

“That’s the problem. Your ‘self’ is gay.”

    “WTF?That doesn’t make sense, I’m not gay.”

“Are you disparaging gays? Because I can get HR involved with this, if your going to start getting bigoted about gays.”

“I’m not bigoted about gays, my brother is gay, I don’t care, but I’M NOT GAY!”

“Yes, you are. Be in that parade, or you’re fired.”

“Cognitive dissonance” are the words you’re looking for. They likely believe they are allies while thinking nothing of what the office jobs they do are tied to. Debbie, the office admin, is happily stocking paperclips and chatting while refilling break room supplies, and has no idea what her officemates actually do beyond “import computer work”, but she has a niece that’s kind of a tomboy so she wants to be supportive.

You have people like Debbie, and you have people who are acutely aware of absolutely everything they are doing end-to-end and know that PR shit like this actually sways opinion with the masses.

This would make more sense next month, especially for Americans. When every company says “hey we can put a rainbow behind our logo, look how progressive we are, buy our shit.” And Apple releases a new Pride wallpaper (they actually just did so in 26.5).

None of these companies really support minorities, what they support is profit.

Picture just shows Lockheed-Martin just trying to show people they care. They don’t.

People at just about every company (not, like, ICE and stuff) support LGBTQ+ rights. Not everyone but some people do. Carrying the flag of the company they work for is just fucking weird though.

Insane, mind-boggling, that good and bad things can coexist. If only they were holding a confederate flag so we could grandstand about it in a morally uncomplicated way.
