I really, really don’t want to leave the country, but I cannot wishful-think myself into being able to pay rent so, if nothing changes by February or so, unfortunately I’ll have to take some drastic decisions.

I am a 35 year old Italian guy how moved to DK in 2015, currently living in Copenhagen.

I have a BSc in Market and Management Anthropology from SDU in Odense, and a master in Techno-Anthropology from AAU in CPH. Long story short, my field is basically anything that has to do with qualitative methods and the social sciences, so (UX) research, everything company culture-related, working with R&D or developers, stakeholder management across departments, teaching, advisory, writing articles and so on, all of which are things I have direct experience with. Problem is, I’ve sent a ton of applications (I think 100+) and got basically jack shit out of it, while the dagpenge doomsday clock is currently set to April.

I therefore started to look for jobs that don’t require a university degree, hoping that it would be easier to get in and at least getting off Jobcenter’s grip, while also still having the time to keep sending applications for things in my field. I’m talking stuff like janitor or janitor-adjacent jobs. Alas, that doesn’t seem to work either, and I’m told that the reason might be that those employers are not interested in overqualified folks because they know they’ll probably leave soon (which would indeed be my hope).

I’d really not want to move from Copenhagen, because the little network that I build over the years with much difficulty means a lot to me. However, I am looking in the rest of Sjælland and Odense too, and of course I’d be open for remote work or hybrid solutions with employers based in other parts of the country.

Yes, I do speak Danish. I aced the Prøve i Dansk 3 exam, which means I’m at a solid B2 level. I’m writing in English to make sure that I can reach other internationals as well.

No, I haven’t checked restaurants yet because I worked in the service industry for a long time and I hope that my contribution to that sector is concluded. I will of course do it, if it comes to that, but for now it’s my last resort.

Jobcenter has been way less than useful over the years, but I recently got some good advice from IDA that I hope will help in terms of how to improve CV and applications.

So the question is: what in the rødgrød med fløde fuck do I do?

Tak <3
