How im reading this team right now is we have a central zone access issue. Last season our midfield with xhaka was absolutely clicking, so a jesus type striker who floats around the pitch worked. Right now the midfield isnt working, so that’s why whenever havertz plays striker, we look alot better, because hes a focal point who brings people into the middle of the pitch.
Basically, we still need to find a replacement in that LCM position.
This team would be so much more fluid if we had nailed that signing this summer, unfortunately, we’re playing a bit more wobbled. But even then we’re still getting results which is good news. But that’s def an issue we need to address next summer or sooner.
it took xhaka a season to click in the midfield. i maintain the position that there’s no point rushing for another replacement in the lcm position if we are just going to discard them every time they don’t replicate or surpass xhaka’s peak after two months.
not to mention the rhs was also a problem yesterday so it’s not the “one miracle signing to change our lives” situation football fans generally gravitate towards.
The problem was that we took a risk in signing Havertz, yes he needs time, but are we able to afford that? Who knows, we can’t really say that we’ll get the Leverkusen version of Havertz at Arsenal.
And Xhaka started to play better when Arteta tailor made a role for Xhaka that limited his deficiencies, it didn’t really have anything to do with Xhaka needing to acclimatize.
