We often see finfluencers promising fast or easy money, often associated with the allure of a lavish lifestyle," Mr Kirkland said.
"Often there’s a real emphasis on … the power of the personality of the finfluencer that obscures the lack of substance in their advice.
The cult of personality is ubiquitous, especially egregious in politics which sees people vote for personality over policy, ao not unsurprising to see it elsewhere.
rant over :)
anyone have examples of Australians they consider shady finfluencers ? or hell, even decent ones?
Anyone that calls themselves an influencer is shady and not to be trusted imo.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again and again: the word “influencer” is one of the shadiest things I can think of, and it’s amazing how numb people are to it. "Wow, that’s my favourite manipulator! I watch that deceiver all the time <3 "
Influencer is just a rebrand of shill and people eat it up.
Linking the Boy Boy video reacting to finfluencers, for a laugh.
I wonder how much it costs to pretend to be rich (without taking out huge loans). Things like renting expensive clothes, cars and locations for a few hours, LARPing and then leaving.
Not shady, and not strictly a finfluencer either, but Chris Kohler has more hits than misses in his finance inspired short videos.
Oh no! A warning notice! Is that stronger or weaker than a sternly-worded letter?
