Yeah but I’m not getting the clown OR the bread so things are getting a little unpleasant.
Bread and circuses politics get criticized, but the irony is that we’re losing even that
It’s been a pretty safe recipe for millennia.
Seriously, they barely have to manufacture consent anymore. Just argue that [insert country] BAD and America is GOOD. Don’t think about the diplomatic, economic, military, and covert actions the US did to [insert country] in the past.
Yeah bread and circus has its issues, and I dislike that it’s used to stratify wealth. But also it’s a baseline of function for a government. It’s that needs are met and the population has entertainment. It prevents revolts that need to happen, yes, but it also prevents revolts that don’t and will just make things worse
