Sinclair Spectrum or Commodore 64?
My first computer was a Sinclair ZX81. I had it about a year before I switched to a Sinclair Spectrum and a couple of years later I moved on to Sinclair QL.
Some friends of mine had a Commodore 64. They were more expensive, better hardware, but less accessible when it came to programming, IMHO, at least using Basic. So my friends did more gaming and I did more programming.
Did you have any of these? Which camp were you in?

@jon@vivaldi.net I had a school friend with a C64. I would go round his house, and we we would load a game… Then go out and play on our bikes or something for a while, waiting for it… Then go back, hoping that the game was loaded up ready to play. And not the dreaded !!LOAD ERROR!! screen…
