i haven’t found good PS1 games in the wild in nearly 20 years
today i scored for $3 each!

I used to skip school to play tactics. Man i miss those days.
I liquidated all my PS1 and Nintendo games about 15 years ago. Everyday, ragrets.
There’s a few old cartridges I miss and wish I hadn’t given away, but probably none more than my Genesis collection. I had some real good stuff! Who would’ve guessed that trolls and hoarders would make it impossible to find old physical media?
@vga256@dialup.cafe wow a black-label FFIX, I was waffling over spending $40 on that at a used store a few years back knowing that was outrageous for it then lol
@britown@mastodon.gamedev.place 😆 that’s the one i was most excited about too. i’ve had a GH FFIX for ages that i’ve been dying to replace
@vga256@dialup.cafe Ok, so I never played any of the Final Fantasy games, and I was thinking I should start with the NES version and work my way up. Good plan? Or am I in for a world of pain?
Use a guide for the first several of them, as they can be a bit obtuse (especially the first 2). Once they start to modernize with 5 and 6 you’ll have an easier time going through without a guide. I’ll stand by the idea of playing them all, though, especially from a historical position. They are fascinating time capsules.
@GuyDudeman@beige.party no idea what kinds of games you like to play. FF7 was my first.
@vga256@dialup.cafe Lucky you! What a rare find 🤯
I absolutely HATED Final Fantasy Tactics. I picked it up shortly after finishing FF7 and was expecting a similar game… but I stuck with it and played it for many hours. I got to one part that I just couldn’t get past, so many days trying and retrying and never having any success.
It got to the point where I would hate play it. Determined to not let it beat me. I’m the end, it beat me.
Today any time I see it mentioned online people talk about their love of it, but it never brought me any joy. I feel like I must have missed something.
You should never play a game you hate in hopes that it becomes good. If it ever does, you’ll probably be too annoyed at it to appreciate it.
That said, I enjoyed Tactics. I never played the original PS1 version, but the GBA one. I did ALMOST everything in the game twice. The one thing I failed to do was unlock the judge guy. I never seemed to have the right items needed to unlock the extra quests.
