I used to use my Japanese red one for GBA games and the like, it seriously kicked ass for that purpose for many years

But the Steam Deck exists now and so Ive moved to more powerful emulation pastures

Price would be the main factor. You can’t buy a Steam Deck for £100. Also a Vita is a lot smaller so easier to travel with.

The Vita is a lot smaller at least right? If all you are going to do is play retro stuff the deck might be overkill.

If I can get one of the refurbs for cheap and add my own larger drive I am def ready to get one though.

You can use a number of other smaller devices with better hardware as well. The Deck has the benefit of being multipurpose, a solid interface, ongoing maintenance and updates…etc.

I was considering a Steam Deck for the commute but people in my work place steal. Lads have had jacket pockets rifled and lockers broken into. We used to get free lunch but that stopped because people kept snapping the locks on the cupboards to nick bread and tins of soup.

Something I could either fit in my pocket or not be too fussed about the monetary loss would be the ticket.

Any Chinese handhelds will do a better job than the Vita surely for less of the price, maybe ruling out PSP, PS1 and ofc VITA games.

I want a portable PC that’s vita sized so bad! I’m completely fine with it being weak. Maybe just strong enough for like 2016 releases

It’s insanely pricey, but the GPD Win 4 is the closest thing I’ve seen to what I’m dreaming of. You’ve gotta really want it at that price point though.

Probably a hot take, but I’d like a GPD Win 4 with Playstation layout. Whenever possible, I always go for playstation approach.

I was searching for one of those little retro things, and my wife was like “We have a Vita, need.” Abs she introduced me to this whole world. It’s crazy easy, and the vita hardware is amazing. Its a pocket Breath of Fire machine!

I loved my og psp and vita, but at this point retro seems better served by something like a retroid or miyoo. Or even just a decent controller with a phone…

That’s what I was thinking too. A controller + smartphone pretty much does everything the Vita does, probably even better depending on the model. And for larger devices you might as well go straight for the Deck.
